How to Properly Store and Care for Your CND Nail Polishes
Love your CND nail polishes, base coats, and top coats, and want to keep them in tip-top shape for longer? You're in the right place! Proper care isn't just about making your manicure last; it's about preserving the quality of your polishes too. Here’s how to give your CND Nail Polish collection the TLC it deserves.
Seal the Deal: Lids and Drips Matter
It might seem obvious, but making sure the lids are done up firmly after each use is crucial. This is your first line of defense against air getting in and ruining your polish. Before you screw that lid back on, take a moment to clean up any drips around the outside of the neck of the bottle. Those little dried bits can prevent a tight seal, letting air sneak in over time.
Speaking of air, try not to have the lid off for too long. Once air gets in, the solvents start to evaporate, which can thicken your polish and make it harder to apply smoothly. Get what you need, then seal it back up!
Don't let a stubborn lid ruin your manicure plans! If your nail polish bottle is sealed shut, a simple trick can often free it. First, run the lid of the bottle directly under hot tap water for about 30 seconds. The heat helps to expand the lid slightly and soften any dried polish that might be acting like glue. After heating, carefully dry the lid, then use the back of a spoon to gently tap all around the edge of the lid. This tapping motion helps to break any remaining seal or dislodge dried polish particles. With a good grip (a rubber band around the lid can help here too!), your polish bottle should now twist open smoothly, ready for your next perfect application. Make sure you clean around the lid before replacing the lid to prevent this happening again.
Keep it Clean: Regular Maintenance
Just like your nails, your polish bottles need a little cleaning too. Clean around all the tops regularly with a cotton pad and CND Offly Fast nail polish remover. You could use an old piece of towelling with the remover, instead of a cotton pad. The cloth is stronger and more effective for wiping away any residue than a tissue, which can tear and leave lint behind. Keeping the bottle neck clear ensures a good seal every time.
Smart Storage for Longevity
Where you store your polishes makes a big difference. Always store them upright, not on their side. This prevents leaks and helps keep the polish components safe. And definitely don't store them in the bathroom! The fluctuating temperatures and humidity in a bathroom are no friends to nail polish.
Instead, opt for a box where they can be upright or on a shelf away from direct heat or sunlight. Constant exposure to light or heat can alter the polish's color and consistency. A cool and stable environment is ideal.
Shake It Up!
Finally, give your polishes a little wake-up call now and then. Shake them regularly to keep the formula mixed. This prevents separation of pigments (this is normal and a shake up blends the nail polish perfectly) and ensures you get a consistent, beautiful colour every time you paint your nails. CND Nail Polishes always need to be shaken well before use.
If by any chance you find one of your nail polishes has become thick and gluggy, we have Nail Polish Thinner available in the Nail Care collection, which will easily restore its consistency.
However, if the nail polish is not only thick but also old, the lid was stuck on and it has not been used for several months, then it is possible that the solvents have leaked out and it is perished, so discard it and purchase some gorgeous new colours instead so that you get a great result every time.
By following these simple steps, you'll extend the life of your beloved CND nail polishes, ensuring every manicure is as perfect as the first.
